Das Manifest

Kommenden Samstag, dem 10 Juli, werden Tausende von Katalanen in Barcelona unter der Parole “Wir sind eine Nation! Wir wollen selbst entscheiden!” gegen das kürzlich gefällte Urteil des spanischen Verfassungsgericht, welches das Verfassungsstatut von Katalonien beschneidet, demonstrieren. Òmnium Cultural, ein Verband, der sich für die Wahrung der katalanischen Sprache und Kultur einsetzt, ruft zu der Demonstration auf, die auch durch Hunderte von Vereinen und Persönlichkeiten aus dem ganzen Land unterstützt wird.

Durch das Urteil werden einige der wichtigsten Artikel des Verfassungsstatuts von Katalonien außer Kraft gesetzt, unter anderem in Bereichen wie Sprache, Justiz, Finanzen und Zuwanderung. Ebenfalls wird der Definition Kataloniens als Nation jegliche rechtliche Gültigkeit abgesprochen. Dabei sei daran erinnert, dass das Verfassungsstatut von Katalonien 2006 sowohl vom katalanischen Parlament als auch von den beiden Kammern des spanischen Parlaments verabschiedet worden war und dass das katalanische Volk es per Volksabstimmung angenommen hatte. Vier Jahre später nun hat ein vielerseits infrage gestelltes Gericht mit Richtern, deren Mandat abgelaufen ist, Richtern, die wegen Befangenheit abgelehnt werden, und nicht neu besetzen Vakanzen ein Urteil gesprochen, welches die Bestrebungen Kataloniens nach Selbstverwaltung ernstlich einschränkt.

Wir, die in Berlin ansässigen Katalanen, wollen angesichts dessen nicht untätig bleiben und rufen zu einer Protestkundgebung am gleichen Tag (10. Juli) und zur gleichen Zeit (18 Uhr) am Alexanderplatz auf. Mit katalanischen Fahnen und Flugblättern werden wir im Herzen Deutschlands auf die Situation aufmerksam machen. Auch in London wird eine ähnliche Kundgebung stattfinden und wir möchten die Katalanen in anderen Städten Deutschlands und der Welt dazu ermuntern, ähnliche Protestveranstaltungen zu organisieren.

This is the blog of a group of Catalans from Berlin who also want to join to the demonstration of the Catalan people in Barcelona on Saturday July 10. This demonstration is both a protest against the modification that Spanish Constitutional Court has done of the current Catalan Statute of Autonomy, and a demand of the self-determination right of the Catalan nation.

Let us mention that the Catalan Statute of Autonomy had undergone all the steps stated in the Constitution for its approval. The first draft was firstly agreed and approved by the Catalan Parliament in September 2005 with the 90% of the total votes. In November, the Spanish Parliament accepted the text and debated its contents. The draft was modified and approved, firstly by the Constitutional Committee of the Spanish Parliament and secondly by the plenary of the Parliament. Only the PP party voted against the Catalan Statute of Autonomy. Finally, it was approved by the Catalan people who were asked to vote on it in a referendum on June 2006.

Moreover, during these 4 years, the Constitutional Court has been in the centre of deep and wide controversies, as the political parties were playing with its composition with the complicity of the Court’s members. One of the initial 12 members of the Court was retired, another one died, and the mandates of 4 of them had to expire in November 2007.
